I have a confession: I have no special workout planned this week.
But it isn’t because I’m lazy. It’s because I was (kind of). Last week did not go to plan in terms of my half marathon training. I did not hit my mileage on any of my training runs, and I felt sluggish and unmotivated all week. Most disastrous was my long run, which went from 12 miles to 4.55 on another steamy, humid morning. All in all, a disheartening week.
So this week, I’m bringing my focus back to running. I’m continuing the two challenges I wrote about last week, but other than that I want to get my mindset back onto hitting my mileage on training runs.
This week was originally supposed to be a kick-back week culminating in an eight-mile long run on Saturday, but I’m switching things up to reflect last week’s debacle. It will be a full-mileage week, and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate to get 12 miles in on Saturday.
Half Marathon Training Week 12 Plan
Monday - Rest (OK, I had a headache, so I didn’t run and switched my rest day from Tuesday) ✔️
Tuesday - 4 miles easy ✔️
Wednesday - 5 miles easy
Thursday - 4 miles (1 mile warm-up, 2 miles tempo, 1 mile cooldown)
Friday - Rest (Kyle is coming home so I’m probably not going to work out, tbh)
Saturday - 12 miles
Sunday - Walk
This will be my highest mileage week if it all goes to plan, and I’ll really be testing myself by getting it done. I’m learning so much through this marathon training process, though, and I’m excited to share it all once I’ve completed the race. It's now only a little more than a month away! So close, yet so far!
What is your workout this Wednesday?
How do you recover from bad training weeks?
Seriously, how do you handle the humidity? My plan is just to move to Denver at this point. Or Utah.
