I have successfully made it through seven days of Whole30, and I'm excited to report that it has so far been a breeze! Well, I mean, do I still sometimes think about bread and cheese and have I said "I want pizza" out loud to myself in the grocery store? Yes. But I really haven't experienced any negative side effects or moods that I've read about so far.
Today, however, is where the training wheels will be forcibly removed. I am heading into Chicago for White Sox opening day, which means I will be surrounded by beer, hot dogs, peanuts, Cracker Jack, and some kind of 16-inch mac-n-cheese sandwich. I swear that's a real thing that exists.
So, this is something I definitely had to prepare for. You are permitted to carry into the stadium a sealed bottle of water and a clear plastic bag of food. This is what I will be packing in mine:
- Two Whole30-approved Lara Bars
- One turkey and one venison jerky stick
- Almond butter and apples wrapped in an almond-flour tortilla (I literally just found out Paleo tortillas are not allowed for psychological reasons, I guess, but I'm just living here.)
- Carrots and guacamole
This seems like a lot, but in my family Opening Day is a holiday. I'm going to be there all day, and I need to be prepared for emergencies. I've also scoped out some of the concessions offerings, and there might be a couple of options if things get pretty dire.
You might also be wonder where my salad is. Well, the thing is, I'm not the biggest fan of salad, so I'm doing the Whole30 with as little salad as possible. They told me I didn't have to eat anything I didn't want to eat, and salad is one of those things.
I've failed to meet a lot of goals I've set for myself in my life because I didn't take time to make a plan on how to achieve them. I'm starting to learn my lesson, I think, and I'm spending more time plotting my actions to get results.
So, bring on Day 8! I know exactly how I'm going to tackle it.
