It’s a new year, and Friday Favorites are back! Not sure if this is going to be a weekly thing or not, but I’m all for it when I run into things I’m excited about.
Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker — Kyle’s parents gifted this to me, and it has already drastically changed how I approach cooking. At first, I had no idea what it was, but after several conversations and tinkering with it, I can’t imagine cooking without it. Imagine — perfectly cooked meat every time! No more chewy undercooked steaks or dried out overcooked chicken breasts. This thing will give you tender, juicy meat every time. Plus it does vegetables! And desserts! And COCKTAILS! As I write this we are embarking on a 48-hour journey to the perfect lamb ragu. OK, it might be a little time-consuming (in terms of cook time; there’s hardly any prep), but trust me, it’s worth it.
This bath robe — I wanted a really nice bath robe this year. I actually suggested it (among other things) to my sister when she asked what I wanted, but I ended up getting this one in white without that hint from Kyle’s parents (we seriously can’t break up because his parents give the best gifts haha!) and I have been blown away. I have never known such comfort! It is so cozy. I am such a believer in Turkish cotton now, I never want to buy anything else. (I actually feel really bad googling it for this post because, man … I hope it was on sale when they picked it up!)
Chrissy Teigen’s Chicken Pot Pie Soup — Sadly, I did not cook this with the sous vide, but it was unreal just the same. All that you love about chicken pot pie, without actually having to, you know, make a chicken pot pie. I have the cookbook, but you can also find the recipe here. It is not healthy but I. do. not. care.
Orangetheory — Have I talked about OTF enough on here yet? I’ve been going for nearly three months and it’s not any easier. And yet I feel so much better the more that I go. I’ve already upgraded my membership once and I might as well end up upgrading it a final time because I love it so much. I just love workouts when I am drenched in sweat at the end, but the class atmosphere mitigates my tendency to take it easy on myself. I like the accountability of it — especially because the hardest part is actually just getting to class in the first place!
Mikasa 36-piece Bone China Set — I actually can’t find the pattern that I got, but this is pretty close. Our dishes were in desperate need of upgrading, and Santa (aka my parents) came through (with my guidance, of course). Instead of this trellis design, our set has a tactile dotted pattern, but I really liked this one, too. (See above photo of chicken pot pie soup for pattern on bowl.)
Wine Insiders — Kyle sometimes makes fun of my love for wine, but when I told him I was considering a Cyber Monday deal from Wine Insiders that included 15 bottles of wine for $75 dollars, he acted like I was crazy for not immediately jumping on it. So I pulled the trigger and was not disappointed. I’ve loved each of the wines I’ve tried so far (I still have eight or nine bottles left), and I can’t get over how great the deals are. I also have a handful of vouchers to go toward my next purchase. There’s really no need to buy your wine from anywhere else, as far as I’m concerned!
Plus, I feel like so much more of an adult with a full wine rack. Too bad I won’t be able to touch any of it when I start another round of Whole30 next month!
These sweats (for your man!) — OK, so this is a gift I actually gave (not for Christmas, but for NECESSITY!). Kyle lives in his ratty gray sweatpants at home, but has at least acknowledged the need to replace them for something a little less… hole-y. These are great because they’re comfy, cozy, durable, and still look fairly nice (again, for being lazy in). Full disclosure: I have an Under Armour VIP account through work, so I did not pay for these (though I will get taxed on them). But they’re on sale, and anything from UA is worth it in my opinion.
Purdue at No. 3! — Sports intrusion — oops! The guys at my alma mater are absolutely killing it this season. I covered the basketball team for the school paper as an undergrad, so I have a soft spot for Coach Painter and the gang, and I’m so excited to see how this season plays out!
That’s it for this week! Next Friday is my birthday (I’ll be turning a youthful 21 years old for those wondering), so I’ll once again get a chance to talk about all of the material possessions others give to me (I’M JOKING!)
What are your Friday Favorites?
